Why Orbitcoin?

Because first of all, we don't like central banks and corrupt governments, and would love to see them lose their monopoly. If you haven't noticed, they aren't so happy about Bitcoin and all the other coins out there. And they will try to stop them. Orbitcoin's goal is to be used on darknets like I2P, Tor and others as well as the normal Internet (clearnet) + in Orbit. At the current moment it works with SOCKS over I2P/Tor. Native support for I2P should be in place soon. It's an advanced Scrypt based PoW/PoS coin and has some other nice features, too.

This is by far the first crypto coin to truly help science. The Orbitcoin Society mission goal is to support open source science and bring some of that power back to the people!

Name (Orbitcoin) Ticker (ORB), symbol (∅)

example ($10) $ is the symbol for USD, so 10 ORB would be 10

Proof-Of-Stake

Orbitcoin's major distinguishing feature is that it uses proof-of-stake/proof-of-work hybrid system. The proof-of-stake system was designed to address vulnerabilities that could occur in a pure proof-of-work system. For example, there is a risk of 51% attacks in Bitcoin or Litecoin resulting from a monopoly on mining power (a 51% attack is when a single entity possesses over a half of the network hash power), which would possibly allow this entity to double spend coins. With a proof-of-stake system, a network attacker would also need to gain a large quantity of coins. This has the effect of making a monopoly more costly, and stops the risk of a monopoly from proof-of-work mining shares.

Digital money made for the Internet

Orbitcoin was born from the Internet, bringing the freedom of physical money to the virtual world while making payments easier and more secure in both worlds. Orbitcoin can offer an alternative to previous cumbersome and costly systems, and it can increase online business access to developing countries,as well as helping to advance open source science.

Orbitcoin is set to bring the Seed node of Freedom to the Scientific community!

Once Orbitcoin gains enough public awareness we will be able to offer funding to scientist that would like to investigate these theories currently but know that their reputation would be ruined if they were to ask for funding from their normal sources to look deeper into these things.

Orbitcoin information has been updated.

@TheRedMist

Sitewide I'm setting a format for the CCT info thread (I start an info thread for each coin).  Feel free to start or pin any other information thread you want, but the CCT official information thread needs to be in the format above.  It makes it easier for visitors to find information about a particular coin.   :)   If you have any information:  pool, new client download, service, etc. post a reply in this thread and I will update the info post.

Merchant account, for anybody that wants to take payment by ORB.

Just an FYI - if you copy and paste something from another site it keeps the previous sites text formatting.  To remove the formatting select the copied text and either hit the little eraser (second icon in the first row above) or click on the gear (last icon in the first row) to remove the formatting for text copied from another site.  If you select the gear you can set a preference to always copy without formatting (plain text by default).

Are you going to be running a giveaway?  If so, let me know and I will create a banner for you.

We was planning to use all funds in a responsible manner, with people making a post about ORB for a bounty,

but thinking on the matter once more,1000 ORB can be added to a Cryptocointalk giveaway at a rate of one coin per person.

The equivalent of 4 mined blocks each.

So if you can do the banner that would be great,

and you can have a 100 ORB bounty as it helps our goal to reach out to the masses.

:D

Once you start a Giveaway thread I can add the banner to the top of the site, I need the link for the banner.

Thanks for the bounty offer, but CryptoCoinTalk.com doesn't accept donations.  Everything is FREE.  CryptoCoinTalk.com has to be the only site out there that doesn't want or accept donations.  I do this as a hobby and to help advance cryptocoin knowledge and awareness. Thanks for the offer though!   :)
