We are pleased to announce the open beta of GaltCoin, a scrypt-based cryptocurrency that will have 42,000,000 coins in existence and encourages extra layering of anonymity such as tor. We still anticipate live release on 1/31, so stay tuned for that, but we've found that testnet and our limited resources just aren't providing enough testing capacity, so we'll let the world test it for us.

GaltCoin is available at http://galtco.in and via git and subversion from https://sourceforge.net/projects/galtcoin/ We have a IRC channel on freenode, #galtcoin, for any feedback you may have during this beta, or in fact anytime.  During this open beta, mining is allowed, but there should be minimal need for transactions at this early point in the game.  As we are still in beta, please keep comments in this thread constructive, you can express your opinions when the time comes. We also are using Sourceforge's BTS, so if you do find any bugs, please submit them there.

Warm regards and happy hunting

The GaltCoin Devteam

When you're out of beta are you going to be resetting the blockchain?  Is this just a testing period before the official launch?

I asked that because when you put beta in there is implies that things might be reset.  There are 300 coins which are a 100% go.  Beta testing is all well and good, but the biggest push is when a coin is launched.  That's when you pick up the most supporters IMO.  There are plenty of established coins which I can mine which are high in difficulty and return.  If you plan on really making a push at block 10000 than it's going to be hard to get a lot of people on board.  There is a lot of competition out there.
