  1. Hey, I'm new to GridCoin and do not have the initial GRC needed. Uscore tells you that it will take up to a week. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give 20 or so GRC to me to start mining. I also noticed that there's no thread dedicated to a simple "I need starter coins" type of exchange. I know you can buy them at the exchanges, but with all of the security problems I'm having trouble trusting any of the exchanges atm. So I'm kind of hoping 1. that someone will give me starter GRC and 2. that this thread will become a place for beginners to ask for starter GRC. My address is S4bKZG6UDaYSpGgoTN8HuML9gaBmxjZxdF. Thanks! I'll repay some other beginner once I'm mining.

  4. GridCoin.co Pool (beta) This pool is under active development and may have issues/bugs from time to time. However things have been pretty stable and everything, including payments, are working normally. Please leave any issues/bugs you run into here or leave me some feedback! ♥ The front page of the site should have all the info you need to be able to connect to the pool and start researching right away. If anything is unclear or you think something should be added, please let me know! I want to make this as easy as possible! This pool works a little differently then the previous pool. So I will give a brief summary on how it works. Instead of relying on BAM!, I have created my own account manager which will handle attaching the pool's projects to your BOINC client. It will also upload your host information to my database, allowing you to link your host to the pool automatically, you do not have to do anything. I have a script that runs every two hours to pull host RACs from the pool's account on each project. This is then updated in my database and displayed on your profile page. For now payments will be done semi manually, in that, once we stake a block, or once a day, or whenever I feel it should be necessary, I will run a payment script that reads everyone's RAC, compares it to everyone else in the pool and assigns you percents. "Project Percent", which is the percent of your host in that project compared to all other pool members in that project. "Total Percent", which is the percent of your host compared to the entire pool, all projects. Your total percent is now the final percent used against the pool's staking balance. For now, the script crafts a sendmany command that I can use in the wallet's console. (This will be made all automatic once I am happy everything works correctly and is stable) A word about my account manager, this does mean you wont be able to use other managers while using mine, however once you have confirmed your host and projects are showing up on your profile, it would be perfectly fine to stop using the account manager, your RAC is updated independently of the account manager. Just make sure to connect once again if you want to add new projects or change settings. Also, it is possible to research projects on this pool as well as research your own projects. Solo and Pool researching can be done together so long as your wallet is setup to your solo CPID BEFORE you start using the pool. Thank you to everyone on IRC who has helped me test the pool, I wouldn't have been able to get this far without you all. ♥ Pool's CPID: 204d178f9b6d4de25297c99fed0ed860 Projects not currently supported: bitcoin utopia - http://www.bitcoinutopia.net/bitcoinutopia/ Pointless without being able to set apps leiden classical - http://boinc.gorlaeus.net/ Doesn't support weak auth keys rosetta@home - http://boinc.bakerlab.org/ Doesn't support weak auth keys world community grid - http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/ May add in the future yafu - http://yafu.myfirewall.org/yafu/ Not accepting new accounts yoyo@home - http://www.rechenkraft.net/yoyo/ Doesn't support weak auth keys To-Do: (Updated: Jan 10th, 2016) - Add more info to profile (Last payment date/amount) - Leaderboards and overall pool stats. I really want to do invest mode also but will be saving up enough grid coins earned through bionic solo first. 10. GRIDCOIN is worthless I come here before 8 days. Invest some money ( about 15$) so I can buy some GRC for start. I was on the pool and on solo: and I know that I dont have high end computers , but it is also not low end. First days I learn about MAG and other new things connected to GRIDCOIN. But I also have friend with 12 Radeon 290X. Currently he do only one project and it is Collatz, and soon will have bigger magnitude then POOL. Also have 8.000 at wallet. So far only one reward is come and it was 181 GRC ( of course he got first newbie block) So with 381.13 +35% Boost magnitude and with 8.000 in wallet he got in few days 181 GRC ( and in current place) it doesnot worth anything. Maybe GRC was before good coin ( and it is not coin it is token) but with currently low price ( regardless of the high price of Bitcoin) I dont know what , and how many GPU you need to have to pay even electricity bill. So for all users have start producing this coin: dont expect miracle. You can always make it for fun, and if you dont care about electricity bill you can , and you will got some GRC from time to time . Many lucky to all ,and best regards to all :) This is my own, personal observation...

  13. Project name: Universe@Home Project category: Physical Science Sponsor: http://en.uw.edu.pl/ Goals: Universe@home project utilises the BOINC platform to perform simulations of evolution of numerous stars. In this way we are able to reproduce the evolution of such stellar populations as whole galaxies consisting of billions of stars. The vast picture that is obtained let the scientists compare the results with all the attainable observational data. Such a massive comparison is far more superior to one made on single system. Investigations made on the whole stellar populations gave us not only the information about their evolution but also about the multiplicity and statistics. This methodology is called population synthesis. Current whitelist status: Whitelisted! 15. Some feedback on my first experiences with Gridcoin pool mining Hi all, as a long time BOINCer I finally got up to speed with Gridcoin. As main feedback I would like to point out that maybe a better description of how to add projects in case of pool mining on the websites. I had misinterpreted the description on gridcoin.us. I found no information on grcpool.com neither. It was only untill I watched the video that I sorted it out. Maybe some text would have helped me out. You can find a longer description of my issue on my steemit post here: https://steemit.com/gridcoin/@jefpatat/the-gridcoin-journey-part-1-getting-started kind regards, Jef

The design is not yet fully optimized, but functional. I present to you; Gridcoinstats.eu --- This page will be a one stop for anyone to track any data on the Gridcoin network. From Blocks and Transaction details to Addresses and CPIDs with Magnitude. I have set this up for optimized uptime possibility with many fail safes to make sure the page reaches as close to 100% uptime without human interaction. It should be a place to be able to rely on. After the last update we are now having many functions for every day usage. Following Functions are running: - Block Details - Transaction Details - Address Details + History - CPID/Magnitude Details + History including Est. Magnitude and Interest - Voting Details - Projects Details - Projects News - Projects WU Status - Historical Graphs for Projects WUs, Magnitude, Wallet Balances etc. - HTTPS Support for the website Planned - My Page; A Place you can track specific addresses and CPIDs. No login required, a unike key will be generated to track changes. - Open API over HTTPS for anyone to request data from; Perfect for Bots and projects that can't run a full wallet. 25. Competitor Analysis: BOINC/Gridcoin vs. Folding@home/Foldingcoin/CureCoin Here is an interesting analysis I did on the profitability of BOINC/Gridcoin against Folding@home/Foldingcoin/CureCoin, which I see as the main competitor to Gridcoin (at least for the type of crunching I work on): All the figures are as at a particular time on the morning of 30th July. On a particular low-spec system, I earn an average of 0.033 GRC/day based on the stats at https://www.grcpool.com/. Based on a rate of 0.00001179 BTC/GRC, this is 0.000000389 BTC/day. At $2709.99 BTC/US$, this is $0.00105 per day. For a short while, I paused BOINC, and installed and ran Folding@home. It estimated I would earn 65 points per day (PPD). At a rate of 0.00057637 FLDC per FAH point, I would earn 0.000576 FLDC per day. At 0.00000494 BTC/FLDC, this is 0.000000185 BTC/day, which is $0.000502/day. In addition, each day, Folders as a whole receive 7488 CureCoins to be divided amongst them proportionally. The CureCoin Folding Pool currently earns a total of 745311306 PPD, so my share would be 0.000653 CURE/day. At $0.14120096/CURE, this is $0.0000922. Therefore, the total earnings from CURE and FLDC would be $0.000594 per day, about 56% of the earnings from BOINC/Gridcoin. I was surprised that the two results were not orders of magnitude different, which leads me to believe that a reasonably stable market for volunteer computing is gradually taking shape, although the fact that the researchers ultimately utilising the computer power are not actually paying these earnings themselves (as far as I am aware) leads me to question whether this is actually true. Since the researchers are not paying, I wonder where the monetary value is actually coming from, although I suppose the same question could be asked about the value of Bitcoin. Incidentally, I would expect the cost/value of volunteer computing to be somewhat less than the cost/value of hiring VMs from a cloud computing provider, due to its higher level of reliability and direct control by the user. Aside from the pure monetary factor, other factors are important too, but I feel that they weigh on the side of BOINC/Gridcoin. BOINC is much more customisable in terms of maximum CPU usage, daily run times and other settings, which is important for me, and it also supports a much wider range of projects. Also, my analysis above is based on crunching the World Community Grid project. I am aware that this is a pretty popular project, so the earnings are likely to be significantly less than some other white-listed projects. In terms of the user experience, both BOINC and Folding@home are fairly easy to set up and run, based on my experience, as is the Gridcoin pool at https://www.grcpool.com/. In my honest opinion, the Gridcoin client is quite difficult to set up and is prone to various problems from time to time, due to it being experimental software. I cannot really give an informed opinion on the CureCoin and FoldingCoin wallets and pool, as I have not set these up and will probably not continue to do so, although I did unsuccessfully attempt to install the CureCoin wallet, which was blocked by my AVG antivirus software, which I was not able to override.
